AIR ASIA negotiating for flights to Yangon
We could see in the last half year the explosion of low budget airlines within Southeast Asia. Now the Thai based Air Asia is looking into the possibility to fly between Bangkok and Yangon by the end of this year.
Even so that Yangon/Myanmar is so far not really fitting the regular route plans of these carriers, starting to fly to Yangon is a wise step towards the future. It will help the country to better compete again on the Asian market, where other destinations in South East Asia were offered at much cheaper cost by the low budget carriers.
So far Air Asia is flying to 5 international destinations, Singapore, Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Kota Kinabalu. Soon they will commence a daily flight between Bangkok and Macau.
Additional to Yangon as a target for Air Asia, the airline is talking about flying to Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Siem Riep, Kumming, Chengdu and Hainan as well. Executives are talking to the different authorities and hope to fly as soon as they can get approvals.
