Lashio ::
This town, with over 500,000 inhabitants, most of them Chinese and Shan, is the biggest city in the Northern Shan State, and located at the southern end of the infamous Burma Road.There are many places to visit like Man-Su Pagoda, which is said to be over 250 years old and the even-more-impressive 2500 year old Saasana (Pyi Lon Chanta) Paya. Also of interest is the central market in the morning, where you can see some ethnic groups. The Hot Springs on the road to Mu-Se are also worth a visit.
We will start early in the morning either from Mandalay or Pyin U Lwin and drive through the day by car via Hispaw to Lashio.
On the way you can see the Gokteik Viaduct, which is the second highest railway bridge in the world as well as the Bawgyo Pagoda, a very Shan-style Paya from the 14th century, which is close to Hispaw.
Hispaw itself was once the centre of a small Shan state of its own and you can visit the old Shan Palace and Mahamyatmuni Paya. Further along the way before we reach Lashio are some Shan villages, which may catch your interest.
We will stay for two nights in Lashio, which gives you enough time on the 2nd day to visit the above mentioned sights.
After breakfast and check out of the hotel on the third day we will proceed back to Pyin U Lwin or Mandalay.
We are able to organize trips from Mandalay via Lashio and Mu-Se (close to the Chinese Boarder) to Bamaw and back to Mandalay per boat.
From Bamaw we can drive to Myitkyina in Kachin State from where you can start visits to many Kachin villages.
