  DAYTRIPS from YANGON

National Traditional Village
(Entrance fee: US$3/FEC3)
Half an hour drive from Downtown Yangon, near Yangon-ThanLyin Bridge is the National Traditional Village. You can see eight traditional houses, for each different kind of races (KaChin, KaYah, KaYin, Chin, Myanmar, Mon, Rakhine and Shan). In each house, traditional worshipment, furniture, musical instruments and so on are shown. If you go on the weekend, you can see each kind of races in their traditional suite. Also see some kind of plants in each house compound, which are normally planted or grown in respective states and divisions. As well you can have a look at model land marks (e.g. Golden Rock Pagoda at the Mon house, Inle Lake at Shan house).

Twante
It is located on the other side of Yangon River and has very much retained its original character. In the early morning we drive to the jetty and take a local ferry across the river for a half day sightseeing to Twante. Once across, a one hour drive by jeep will take you to Twante. The road is extremely bumpy and you should be prepared for an uncomfortable yet very interesting ride, which provides a glimpse of life on and along the famous Twante Canal. After a visit to Shwezandaw Pagoda, you can take a trishaw to the pottery area where a large part of the population in Twante is engaged in production of pottery. Walking through the many workshops where locals are busy molding pots, you will be able to observe this very traditional craft. In the afternoon we will come back to Yangon.

Than Lyin / Kyauk Tan
(Entrance fee US$/FEC 3,-)
We drive from Yangon to the east via the Than Lyin Bridge, the longest bridge in Myanmar to Kyauk Tan. In Than Lyin you can visit the local vegetable market and the Kyaik Kauk pagoda from where you have a nice view over the delta region. In Kyauk Tan you will take a small ferry on Bago River to cross to Ye-Le Pagoda, which is located in the middle of the river.
This half to full day trip will give you a good impression of the area and scenery around the capital of Myanmar and as well a good sight into the life on the country side in-between the paddy fields.

Bago
(General Admission to Bago sights: US$ 10,-)
We will drive 1 ½ hrs to Bago, which was reputedly founded in 573 AD by two Mon princes from Thaton. During the late Mon dynastic period it became the center of the Mon kingdom. You can visit the rebuild Kanbawzathadi Palace & Museum of the former Mon palace, walled in the Mon style, with a square measurement along each side of 1.8 km. The palace housed King Bayinnaung from 1553 to 1599, who established the 2nd Union of Myanmar. It features the newly rebuild audience hall and the king's apartment. The city is also famous for its huge reclining Buddha (Shwethalyaung Buddha), which measures 55m in length and was originally built in 994 AD. It is reported to be one of the most lifelike of all reclining Buddha. Originally was it built of brick and stucco by the Mon king Migadepa II. The Shwemawdaw Paya is said to be over 1000 years old. It is 114 meters high and is seen from far away. The pagoda has long history of destruction due to earthquakes and reconstruction; it finally reached today’s height in 1954, after a leveling of the stupa in a massive earthquake in 1930. The mouth of the two guardian beasts at the west entrance contains two Mahayana bodhisattvas.
In the afternoon we will return to Yangon and drop you at your hotel.
